Calling all Content Creators

It is immediately apparent that Williamsport is a hub of talented artists. Between the events held during each monthly First Friday, and interim live performances at pubs and other venues, a lot of talented people are given a chance to display their artistic abilities to the nearby population. One group of people who are sometimes overlooked are those involved with digital media creation. Videographers, web developers, and animators spend countless hours producing great content, which may or may not get noticed among the massive amount of content being published to the web on a daily basis.

In an effort to showcase the local talents of those involved with digital media creation, I would like to form a group, or guild (I think guild sounds cooler.) of digital media creators. We could collaborate on projects, share tips and advice to those in the community, offer resources not readily available to those just starting up (i.e. equipment, talented actors/actresses/cameramen, etc.), and support those in the surrounding colleges that are seeking jobs and experience in digital media ventures.

Through this group I would like to establish an online presence where those involved can publish their content, network with others, and create a name for themselves within the community. In addition to the online site, I would like to eventually host an annual film festival somewhere within the community that will not only showcase everyone’s work, but also raise money towards a good cause (maybe a Media scholarship or something along those lines).

EDIT: I’ve heard that someone is trying to put together a film fest right now, so I think we can really help get the ball rolling towards their efforts.

Now I know this might seem like a pipe dream, but I feel that if enough people in the community are interested, passionate, and can support the group’s goals, we can easily achieve a large number of the items listed above.

The first step toward creating this group is to see if there are enough people in the community that are willing to help out with the formation.  Depending upon the amount of interest generated, we may want to consider hosting an informal meeting somewhere downtown (details to emerge based on interest).

If you are interested in helping me pursue this, by all means either place a comment below or get a hold of me. Also, if you know of anyone that shares similar interests, please link them to this post. I also ask that you help spread the word around by posting some flyers or pass out some handbills around town.  Together we can achieve great things.  Thanks.

    Hello.

I would like to know more about the digital artist guild and how it could augment, complement the initiatives of the Billtown Film Festival.

Hi! I would love to be involved with the guild if possible. I am an aspiring short film maker, with little experience, and would love to meet others interested in the same medium , so that I can increase my experience, connections, and experimentation. Please let me know when you will be having your brainstorming meeting, as I would like to attend. Thanks.
